Be a woman other women can trust. Have the courage to tell another woman directly when she has offended, hurt, or disappointed you. Successful women have a loyal tribe of loyal and honest women behind them. Not haters, not backstabbers or women who whisper behind their back. Be a woman who lifts other women.
This quote resonated with me deeply and I couldn’t agree more. I also do my best to live by it. In return I'm blessed with women in my life who I can trust, rely on, who are honest and supportive of me. Some may say it’s luck or a rare blessing, but I know for sure it is so because I made a commitment to support and be honest with other women. The moment I consciously chose to be that kind of a woman who I would like to have as a friend was a game changer in my life.
As someone who works mostly with women and who leads empowerment workshops for women I often hear stories about women being jealous of each other, envying each other’s success, looks, jobs or husbands. That women don’t cultivate the kind of loyalty or solidarity amongst each other the way men do. I think that is true only if we ourselves mistrust other women. This is something we could have been taught or we chose it as our defence strategy due to lack of self esteem.
Our job is not to monitor other women's journey or complain about them, but to do our best to create the atmosphere of mutual support in our circles. Sometimes that may mean not to engage in relationships where we feel that is not possible. The focus remains however on our own thinking and doing.
As everything else it’s up to us to create a network of support, trust and sincere affection in which we can be proud of each other, as well as call each other out when we think it’s necessary. When one of us shines we proudly cheer her on knowing that she‘ll do the same when it‘s our time to shine. And when she‘s down we‘re there to lift her up knowing she‘ll be there without hesitation when we stumble and fall.
In our society which is sadly still based on patriarchal structures with misogynists abound we really can‘t afford not to unless we want to diminish our own power. Another potent way to create more support among women and give women a stronger voice in our society is to teach our daughters how to appreciate other girls as well as teach them healthy self-esteem.
To all my women out there, you know who you are, I love you dearly and I‘m beyond grateful and blessed to have you in my life. To all the women who feel the same, please keep up your spirits, we're connected energetically and I'm extending my love and affection in this way to you. We totally got this ladies!!!
