Be Realistic: Plan for a Miracle. Osho
Merriam-Webster dictionary defines “miracle” as:
- “a divinely natural phenomenon experienced humanly as the fulfillment of spiritual law’
- “an extraordinary event manifesting divine intervention in human affairs (the healing miracles described in the Gospels)’.
From the yogic perspective a miracle is a shift in perception. More precisely a shift in perception from fear to love. I also love the definition from A Course In Miracles: Miracles occur naturally as expressions of love. The real miracle is the love that inspires them. In this sense everything that comes from love is a miracle.
I like to think that “the spiritual law” or “the divine intervention” mentioned in the dictionary is the power of love. Connected to love instead of fear we are capable of creating miracles every single day wherever we go. Reconnecting to our inner Divinity, (God is Love, Love is God), will clear the way.
So whenever our outer world remains stuck, the Universe is asking from us to look not outward but inward. To shift our thinking from fear to love. It is a call to find the places in ourselves where we are holding on to old patterns that are not functional - where we blame others instead of taking personal responsibility for situations in our lives, where we judge others instead of blessing them, where we are shut down instead of being open and kind.
Now, I understand oh-so-very-well how challenging this can be when all you feel is that you’ve been mistreated, misguided and abandoned by the Universe and everyone else in this galaxy. But do hang in there please. We all have our bad + sad days and they are there for a reason. Let yourself cry, complain and break-down for some time. This will bring clarity as that is exactly what breakdowns are for: breaking things down for you so you can understand them. And then call upon your inner-warrior-of-love yogi! By the means of prayer and practice you will get back on track. You'll come across the right book. Or the right blog. You'll meet the right people. The inspiration will flow. I promise.
Yoga practices can show the way to achieve the sustainable long-lasting change in our life by changing our perception allowing for miracles to unfold. Through different yoga practices: meditation, pranayama, chanting, asana, prayer, gratitude, study of the scripture, etc. our perceptions are refined: we learn to calm the fluctuations of the mind so that we can see objects, people and situations without the judgments, prejudices and conditioning that come from our past thoughts, words and actions. We see the connection instead of separation.
When we stop identifying with our thoughts and feelings, the fluctuations of the mind, or citta-vrittis, we can experience clarity of mind, otherwise known as enlightenment. We finally allow ourselves to forgive and move on. A miracle indeed.
A miracle is a service. It is the maximal service you can render to another. It is a way of loving your neighbor as yourself. You recognize your own and your neighbor's worth simultaneously.
